Standardized Tests for English Language Learners:4th, 8th and 10th graders
Next week, our students from 4th, 8th and 10th grades are going to be taking the Standardized Tests for English Language Learners: MOVERS, KET and PET. The tests are written around familiar topics and focus on the skills needed to communicate effectively in English. The three exams test all four English language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. These test are also aimed to evaluate the bilingual teaching and learning process.
MOVERS: 4th graders
A1 Movers is the second of three Cambridge English Qualifications designed for young learners. These tests introduce children to everyday written and spoken English and are an excellent way for them to gain confidence and improve their English.
Date: September 28th, 2021
KET:8th graders
A2 Key, formerly known as Cambridge English: Key (KET), is one of the Cambridge English Qualifications. This basic-level qualification is a great exam to take if you're new to learning English and it is a proof of your ability to use English to communicate in simple situations.
Date: September 29th, 2021
PET:10th graders
B1 Preliminary, formerly known as Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET), is one of the four Cambridge English Qualifications. It is the English language exam that shows you have mastered the basics of English and now have practical language skills for everyday use. This exam is the logical step in your language learning journey between A2 and B2.
Date: September 30th, 2021
At DAP school, these Institutional tests are taken in the second semester of each year. English teachers, both morning and afternoon shift, play an important role in the organization of all the logistics for the tests. They are also in charge of doing the speaking part.

Picture Dictionaries for Content Areas
Last February 18, the project called “Picture Dictionaries for Content Areas”, was launched to the School community. The project on the creation of eight Interactive Picture Dictionaries for content areas that are taught through the second language: Science, Math, Technology and Physical Education, was released during the first school meeting.
The eight dictionaries were organized in two DVDs, one for primary and the other one for secondary. Each DVD contains four dictionaries for the content areas which can be used in an interactive way in the classroom as well as at home without having any kind of internet connection.
The language covered corresponds to the Syllabi designed for each subject in each school grade based on the CLIL methodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning) implemented in the Bilingual Program at Debora Arango Pérez school.
Each picture dictionary includes key vocabulary with its corresponding definition and illustration as well as its pronunciation. Therefore, students will have the opportunity to learn new words and their definitions, hear the pronunciation of each word and practice spelling at school and at home in an interactive way. Besides, teachers can use these dictionaries as a pedagogical tool to apply in the bilingual learning and teaching process not only at school but also at home.
Additionally, these dictionaries allow students, parents and teachers to look the words up in a fast, flexible and dynamic way. Due to the fact that it is a digital resource it can be updated continuously and according to the needs that may come in the institutional Bilingual Program.
