Bilingual Environment

Content Area Days
Content Area Days are academic and cultural events organized by the different bilingual subjects of our school. We have a special day for Science, Math, Technology, Physical Education and English. These days are held in the Innovation week in September each year. In those days, there is a mixture of friendly competition and students showing their different skills and talents. All bilingual teachers play an important role in the planning and implementation of these important events for our school. The aim is to provide an enjoyable day for students, and teachers have the opportunity to show that learning is fun and interesting!

Institutional Spelling Bee
DAP Institutional Spelling Bee is a competition in which students from third to eleventh grades can participate in three categories: Primary, Secondary A and B. The contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty according to their category and three judges assessed if the words are spelled correctly. The purpose of this competition is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. During the first months of the year, teachers from both Morning and afternoon shifts held different Class Spelling Bee contests in order to choose the spellers to stand for each grade and who compete in the Institutional Spelling Bee. English teachers from both morning and afternoon English are always very commited to the organization and success of this event each year.

English Language Celebrations
During the year, different English activities are organized by the English teachers’ team. They are in charge of organizing the Spelling Bee, the standardized tests, the reading plan, theater plays among others. Other important activities organized each year are a series of contests called “the Olympics” in which students can show their English skills competing among different groups and in some cases with students from other schools. Besides, during the year we have different cultural events at the CIRE.
Institutional Play: Alice in Wonderland

Institutional Play: The Crazy Story

Institutional Theater Plays
Students from primary and secondary had the opportunity to participate in a wonderful experience that started last year when teacher María Isabel Bernate proposed to have a theater play in school. The main goal was to strengthen communication skills through performances and that students can have a different strategy to learn and have fun.
In the morning shift, the play was “Alice in wonderland” and was directed by Claudia Romero, Liliana Chinchilla and Gisell Mora. In the afternoon shift, María Isabel was the director of the play. Both plays have a special musical element, Sandra Calderon was the musical director in “Alice in wonderland” and David Daza in “The crazy story”. The process started by calling students to participate, then they registered and did a casting. After the students had shown their talents and were chosen to be part of the plays, the rehearsals started before or after school hours, practicing their scripts and learning to act. They also had the opportunity of singing, dancing and making their costumes. The plays were presented in the school in both shifts. Students showed all their talents and parents showed the abilities in making amazing costumes, teachers were so committed and enthusiastic. At the end of the day, it was a great experience for all students, teachers and parents involved in the plays.
